The Department of Geotechnical Enginnering was mentioned in the newspaper Correio do Minho as:
"The School of Engineering of Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP) held since 2006, a research project on Tibães Monastery, centered on its water mines. Under an established protocol between the two institutions, many articles have been published in national and international journals as well as many presentations at scientific meetings, based on the hydrogeological surroundings of these mines, particularly the mine of Aveleiras, because it was on this one where tungsten has been explored, mainly in the period of Second World War".
